Down at the bottom of the garden, among the birds and the bees, that’s where you’ll find me.
Scribbling down ideas and to-do lists in my trusty notebook, tapping away like a mad woman on my smart phone. It’s one of the few places I can find total piece of mind. Working from home has major benefits (working in your pyjamas, no awkward office politics) but the fact is you are at home. All the drama of family life, swirls around the house, most distracting. Yes I have an office, which comes in handy for ‘official’ business but my best ideas- the lightning bolts of inspiration, tends to strike when I’m relaxed and disconnected from the rest of the world.
Being unequivocally unplugged, as it turns out, isn’t quite so helpful when it comes to finding inspiration. Just checking a fact or doing a quick, preliminary search is practically second nature now. Being able to fact check and write at the same time speeds up the whole creative process and stops me wandering off subject. A great article is a combination of fresh ideas and reliable research. With a portable device I can separate myself from the rest of humanity but still have infinite resources at my disposal. So if you need me, now you know where to look.
At this time of year I’m consumed with finding the perfect gifts for all my loved ones. Meticulous planning with a smidgen of good luck and my Christmas shopping is almost complete. Time for the fun bit…. the wrapping! As a self confessed stationery freak, I adores all the bows, ribbon and glitter involved in gift wrapping. With all that hard work I think a little treat is in order and there’s some seriously amazing competitions online right now. Here’s my five favourite.
Anyone wondering why I am so obsessed with online just needs to take a look at this….
Mulberry is giving one lucky lovely the chance to win a Mulberry bag of their choice…. the stuff of online fairy tales! Part of the bewitching Festive Fairy Tale campaign, all you need to do is name the Christmas story Allen Leech is reading, then select the handbag of your dreams- simple.
I haven’t had a chance to feature the winter campaign designed by Shona Heath until now. The illustrations are beautiful, snowy woodland scenes to celebrate the brands iconic English heritage. Nestled in the enchanting forest are gifts fit for even the pickiest snow queen. I’ve made my selection…. which one will you choose?
Louis Vuitton, social media, affordable luxury and online prizes…. I’ve got your attention now haven’t I?!!
Chic & Seek the luxury accessory re-homing store is running an international campaign to win a vintage Louis Vuitton handbag. All you need to do to enter is, take a snap of your favourite bag and write a short piece about what you love about your arm candy. Upload your picture and story to Instagram, Twitter or Facebook with the Chic & Seek hashtag #MyHandbagStory. The prize is worth over £1000’s & includes a £50 voucher for Chic & Seek. So what are you waiting for? Here’s my entry for a little inspiration…
This is my beloved Jaeger Bond bag, my very first grown up lady bag. It will never go out of style, works with pretty much everything in my wardrobe and I expect will be with me for many years to come. Every time I carry the sultry, black, quilted lovely with chunky gold hardware, I feel proud to own a future classic.
Way back in July I made a casual comment on how lovely Tala (My Fash Diary) looked in her For Love & Lemons dress. This little comment, unbeknown to me, was the winning entry in Spotted on Celeb’s competition to win that very same dress. I’d pretty much forgotten all about it when, out of the blue Tala contacted me to say I’d won! I swiftly contacted Spotted on Celeb to claim my prize, unfortunately that particular dress had sold out *makes sad face*.
(Fran from MIC in my new dress)
But all was not lost…. I was allowed to choose another style from the Spring/Summer collection, although I wanted to select something similar to the one Tala was wearing. I opted for the Patricia Doves Dress by Ronny Kobo, not quite the same but the pattern is similar. A huge thank you to Tala and Spotted on Celeb. x
Luck be a lady and that lady seems to be smiling on me….
A few months ago I entered a competition on the lovely Tala Samman’s blog (MyFashDiary), commenting on how pretty Tala looked in her For Love & Lemons maxi dress and it turns out I’ve won the very same dress! I plan on styling the dress with boots and a leather jacket (photo’s to follow). I can’t wait to try on my new dress- a big thank you to Tala and Spotted on Celeb who are gifting the dress to me. Lets hope lady luck continues to smile on me….
Remember a couple of weeks ago I posted about The Venus Goddess Competition to design an outfit for Whitney Port? Well it’s time to vote and I’ve decided to chance my luck and submit a design.
All designs must show off Whitney’s lovely legs (and who wouldn’t be envious of those pins?). I’ve plumped for a floral print, silk skirt with embroidery to the hem and layered details highlighting Whitney’s tiny waist. Teamed with a fluid, silk jersey, sleeveless top with gold embellishment to the neck and a gathered, deep v-neck back with metallic trim.
Above is a sneak peek at some of the design details, to view the design in full and vote (anyone who votes for me will receive my best wishes and a huge thank you!) click here.
Win the chance to design an outfit for Whitney Port and have your design featured in Glamour magazine.
Here’s what’s on offer…..
Whitney Port, star of The Hills and The City (my guilty pleasure…. can’t resist a little Speidi) has been appointed Golden Goddess Ambassador for Venus & Olay. The competition will offer one lucky fashion designer the chance to have their creation, selected and modelled by Whitney and featured in the January 2014 edition of Glamour. Not bad, eh?
The competition is a fantastic opportunity for future designers. Take inspiration from the Venus & Olay golden colour palette and the feminine, glamorous, glowing theme. Entries must consist of two pieces and highlight Whitney’s lovely, long legs. For all terms and conditions click here. The closing date is 7th August 2013.
After winning a trip to Paris from Travel Supermarket with their fabulous Worldwide Wardrobe Competition, I whole-heartedly encourage anyone to enter any competition they fancy…. you never know- your luck might just be in.
