More Dash Than Cash

If you’re new to Fashion Follows Her I should probably point out this isn’t a blog focused on super scrimping and bargains, you may have made a wrong click somewhere south of The Frugality. Occasionally and mostly by accident, I stumble across a real steal that fits perfectly into the ‘more dash than cash’ category. My latest purchases fall squarely in that category- a new pair of shiny pink bow flats from M&S for the slightly ludicrous price of £3.99 down from £25’s.

M&S flatsPictured with a mix and match bikini from Tesco’s F&F range which is surprising good quality and quite flattering. Ideal for splashing about in the pool trying to tone up my thighs and bum ready for summer (the chlorine eats bikini’s for breakfast, they barely last a season so it’s not worth spending silly money on swimwear). Have you found any great buys recently?

OOTD: Bank Holidays’ By The Sea.

Suede Jacket, Mango, £119. Necklace, Tatty Devine, £150. Top, Velvet, £85. Rings, My Flash Trash, £32. Trousers, MM6, £259.91. Shoes, Nicholas Kirkwood, £495. Bag, Anya Hindmarch, £495.

April Wish List

April wish-list

Dannijo necklace, The Outnet, £297.49. Nail Varnish, Butter London, £12. Printed Kaftan, Zara, £35.99. Clutch bag, J.Crew, £150. Riko Heels, Sophie Webster, £595. Ipad sleeve, Liberty London, £95.

Turns out you can have too much of a good thing. If another email promoting this season’s must-have pastel trend pops into my inbox I think I’m going to scream! Two months of sugary sweet pastels is quite enough, if you haven’t bought a pink pastel coat yet, just except the moment is over and start looking ahead to summer. This April my wish-list is full of vibrant shades and fierce fashion…. enjoy!

5 Things for a wonderful weekend

5 Things for a wonderful weekend

1. Mix yourself a raspberry rascal and head outside, soak up the first rays of Spring in the crisp April air.

2. Sandal season is right around the corner, give your tootsies a much-needed pedicure.

3. Spring clean your wardrobe, a nasty job but the smug satisfaction of a neat, de-cluttered wardrobe is reward itself. Bag up your unwanted clothes and send off to charity, then cash in your good karma points and indulge in some retail therapy.

Lulu Frost Earrings

(Lulu Frost Earrings Exclusive to Net-A-Porter).

4. It may have escaped your attention but here in the UK this Sunday is Mother’s Day. If your mum deserves a treat (like mine) and you’re stuck on what to buy, I can guarantee a Lulu Frost necklace or pair of earrings would be much appreciated.

5. April means open season for stately homes up and down the country. Fancy a snoop round Sandringham, the Queens country pad? Check out the National Trust website for country houses open in your area.

Have a wonderful weekend. x

Stripe Me Happy…

Stripe Trend

Stripes are springing up on Pinterest…. street-style, bloggers and celebs all getting their stripe on.

Olivia Palermo takes a coffee break, layering a monochrome top with a chunky crystal, statement necklace. Blogger and lifestyle guru Natalya of Five Five Fabulous rocks off-duty stripes at Fashion Week in Paris. Grazia snapped this stripy goddess at New York Fashion Week, working the stripe trend from head to toe. I’ve already bought the shoes and skirt in this edit, so just the necklace, top and bag to go then!

Stripe Skirt, Next, £20. Shoes, Next, £35. Top, Next, £4.50. Necklace, ASOS, £15. Lulu Guinness, Katie Bag, £245.

Fashion in 5 with Emmy Twenty

Emmy Twenty

New Fashion in 5 for Spring.

Sharon Sunners quit her day job in the big smoke to launch Emmy Twenty. Ballerina pumps made from real leather that don’t break the bank… that’s my kind of girl!

1. I started Emmy Twenty because….

I had looked everywhere for leather ballerina pumps at a mid-level price point. All I could find were PU versions or very pricey leather ones, I came up with the idea to design my own.

2. What I love most about my job is…..

Whenever I hear great feedback from customers, that’s a massive boost to my day.

3. If I could start my career again I would….

Keep it the same. What woman out there doesn’t love shoes?!

4. Above all else I value….

My health. If you’ve got that, then everything else is a bonus. (Couldn’t agree more!).

5. This year is all about….

Flat shoes! They’re everywhere right now, and I’m sure the appreciation is set to stay.

Ovarian Cancer Awareness
If you’re feeling charitable purchase a pair of limited edition teal pumps, £5 will go to Ovarian Cancer Action as part of Ovarian Cancer Awareness Month. Any excuse…..

Starting the New Year with sparkle & print

Time to make those ill-fated New Year’s resolutions…. this year I’m going to try to work sparkle and shine into my everyday wardrobe.

Charlotte Olympia flats, kitty hat, Ciate

I’ve always been a ‘less is more’ type of girl, opting for pared down chic rather than all out glam. Turning thirty this year I feel it’s time to let loose and rescue those long-lost gems from the back of the wardrobe. Stop waiting for ‘special occasions’ to wear my best clothes, adding jewels and gems to comfy jumpers and jersey dresses. I also plan on adding a quirky twist with print, kitty cats and kitsch to really liven up my look.

What are your New Year’s resolutions?

Jaeger spotted on This Morning

This Morning

Casually watching This Morning last week I spotted my latest Jaeger purchase on TV. It’s a weird thing when you spot something you own on TV. It’s a kind of ‘oh that’s a nice dress…. hang on a minute, that’s MY dress!’ type moment.

Jaeger dress

News presenter Rachel Round was wearing a Breton stripe, navy and white knitted dress teamed with chunky heels. Here I’ve styled it with a red quilted bag and Mulberry flats for a cute winter work look. My dress is sold out but Jaeger have a cute navy stripe dress available here.

Christmas Gift Guide: Online Exclusives

Christmas shopping is the stuff of nightmares. Trudging around town on a wet Wednesday in your lunch break sucks all the fun out of the festive season. Online shopping is a god send for anyone short on time. And I don’t view shopping online as the lazy option compared to stalking the high-street for the ‘right’ present. Why not select items available exclusively online which means it’s unlikely anyone else will have bought the same gift, so no worries about doubling up on any presents.

A couple of weeks ago Selfridges asked me what was on my wish-list…. well here it is-

Christmas Gift List

1. Christopher Kane dress, Net-a-Porter, £795.

2. Taupe Toe Cap shoes, Wallis, £31.50.

3. Mawi Clutch bag, Selfridges, £525.

4. Bracelet, Urban Outfitters, £10.

5. Ralph Lauren Candle, Selfridges, £120.

6. Urban Decay Naked palette, Debenhams, £18.90.
