March by Numbers

Congham Hall

I’m not really a numbers gal, I don’t count calories or know the exact price of every item in my shopping basket. Some people are obsessed with facts and figures; sensible when applied to financial matters but far to easy to get caught up with calculations and miss the point. For March I’m breaking down the numbers and laying out the facts and figures, so here goes….

– 2 spa visits (one to Congham Hall at the start of the month and a speedy manicure at Thoresby Hall World Spa).

– 129 new followers on Twitter, I won’t mention the unfollows.

– 4 trusty notebooks on the go, you can never have enough notebooks- check out Liberty’s  stationery section.

– 1 new pair of Zara sandals in the hope of some much-needed Spring sunshine.

– 3 new pairs of jeans- thank you GAP for reintroducing denim into my life.

– 1 new job started, check out my first article for Scarlett London.

Spa Ritual Nail Polish

– 3 Nail polish shades I fell in love with from Spa Rituals– Bismuth, Emerald City and It’s Raining Men.

How did your March stack up?

Mani Monday: Back to Basics

Mani Monday Sequin manicure, matt polish, cuticle tattoos, mock croc effect…. with so many trends and nail art tricks, I fancied something more vanilla this week.

With Spring well under way, I’m hankering for a fresh, fun manicure- nothing to full-on and cumbersome. Something more light and natural, nails that compliment not compete, a look that’s a whole lot more vanilla than a feather manicure or chalkboard nails. Last year I would’ve headed straight to the nude section in my nail varnish collection (remind me to show you this sometime- I know you’ll be impressed with my colour coded, OCD organisation) but this year I’m adopting glitter as a base/nude shade. Usually glitter would fall firmly in the ‘look at me’ category but worn without a base colour and lightly applied, I think glitter qualifies as nude. Today I’m wearing silver glitter with a scatter of scarlet red dots called Ha Ha by Spa Rituals. Welcome Spring.

Fashion in 5 with Olivia Cavill

This week PR and marketing manager Olivia from Ciaté talks wish-list lust, Spring trends and which Ciaté colours you’ll find in her beauty box.

What’s on your wish-list at the moment?

I’m forever building my wish list on ASOS and have a tendency to over-order; needless to say I am a premier customer! I love mixing high-street with designer accessories, my Celine handbag is my most cherished piece but I have had my eye on the Alexander Wang ‘Diego’ for a while now, so it will definitely be my next splurge.

2. Describe your own personal style?

I like classic styles with a bit of a twist! My go to is normally a pair of J brand’s, my current faves at the moment are my J Brand leather trousers, with a plain top, paired with my pastel banana and peaches ASH wedge trainers. I like to update classics with statement jewellery; I am a sucker for a killer pair of earrings or a chunky cuff. As a beauty buff I like to keep hair and make-up fresh and polished, Becca being my all-time favourite make up brand.

3. Which trends will you be working this season?

I adore the pastel trend which is back again for Spring ’14 and was all over the catwalks, so I can’t wait to wear my baby pink ankle-grazing skinny jeans once the warmer weather kicks in! I’m also lusting after the Pop Art print trend and will definitely be buying into this as a Spring update.

4. Tell us about your favourite nail polish and what you love about it?

I am probably biased but of course my favourite polish is going to be Ciaté for its good quality, high pigment and long-lasting manicure, and its vibrant array of over 120 colours. My go to is always ‘Iced Frappe’ for a mauve version of a nude. For a more vampy, evening look, I turn to ‘Dangerous Affair’ for the perfect rouge noir.

Ciate Nail Polish5. Your favourite under-rated brand?

I love AQ/AQ for instant ‘wow’ pieces – the brand is a stylist favourite, which I still don’t think has had its time in the spotlight yet. I am also really excited to see the first Whistles fashion show at London Fashion Week this spring, not just because it’s one of my favourite stores but it’s incredible to see a British high-street brand to be invited onto the global fashion stage.

I couldn’t agree more, I can’t wait to see what Whistles come up with to wow us at London Fashion Week.

Thanks Liv

Ciate Velvet Glitter Mani Monday

Ciate Nail Polish

I promised to add glitter and sparkle to my everyday look…. and I’d hate to disappoint you.

Working my way through the huge horde of Ciate nail polishes and trying out a few new techniques, I decided to give the glitter mani a try. I think the effect is similar to the velvet manicure, the application process is the same too. It’s a bit messy but worth while to create such a striking look which is more practical (granted I’m leaving a little glitter trail wherever I go) than the caviar manicure I tried out in a previous post.

Starting the New Year with sparkle & print

Time to make those ill-fated New Year’s resolutions…. this year I’m going to try to work sparkle and shine into my everyday wardrobe.

Charlotte Olympia flats, kitty hat, Ciate

I’ve always been a ‘less is more’ type of girl, opting for pared down chic rather than all out glam. Turning thirty this year I feel it’s time to let loose and rescue those long-lost gems from the back of the wardrobe. Stop waiting for ‘special occasions’ to wear my best clothes, adding jewels and gems to comfy jumpers and jersey dresses. I also plan on adding a quirky twist with print, kitty cats and kitsch to really liven up my look.

What are your New Year’s resolutions?

New Year’s Eve Nails

NYE Nails

Not going out New Year’s Eve…. that’s no reason to avoid a spot of New Year’s sparkle.

I’m not a huge fan of New Year’s Eve parties, I prefer to indulge in Christmas and relax at New Year. Instead I plan on staying in and pampering myself rotten. At least I will be able to step into the next year all shiny and refreshed. I gave myself a Ciate Caviar Pearl manicure for the first time today, after seeing the ever stylish Really Ree try one earlier this year. Totally impractical, I doubt it will last far into the New Year but what a fun effect. If you fancy a caviar manicure my top tip is to apply the base colour first, wait until it’s perfectly dry before adding a coat of clear varnish and pressing in the pearls, avoiding smudging the base colour. Both of the colours I used are in the Ciate Calendar which is currently half-price in the sale.

Happy New Year. x

Ciate Mini Manicure

mani ciateLast year I missed out on the Ciate Mini Manicure Calendar, so this year I pre-ordered mine extra early. 12 days in and I’m loving all the different shades and sparkles. Below is the very first manicure using the new colours, Kiss Chase for the base coat, Mistletoe sequins and a clear top coat. The mini pots are the perfect size for trying new colours and I have 11 more windows to open!

Mani Monday… WAH Heart Nails

Models Own

I heart Models Own WAH nail transfers.

Nail transfers never appealed before, why not just paint your pinkies with quick drying nail polish? Models Own teaming up with badass London nail studio WAH Nails for a little collaboration which caught my attention. I bought the cute heart design, great for special occasions. Application was fairly straight forward; peel off and stick on nail, file off the excess but I found that for anyone with a curved nail bed it isn’t quite that easy. To get a smooth finish with no bubbles gently fix the transfer to the middle of the nail, make two snips on either side of the sticker and ease down each side to achieve a neat finish.

Mani Monday… Chanel Rouge Noir

Chanel Nail Polish

Old faithfuls and fail safe standbys never looked so good….

Chanel topped off the winter nail polish collection with a re-work of an old friend- Rouge Noir. Cherry black and deliciously glossy this fashion favourite was bound to be a hit but I thought I really should try it out just to make sure. Some might find the maroon shade a little moody but as autumn closes in I find comfort in the dark tones and familiar berry goodness. At £18 a bottle Chanel nail varnish isn’t the cheapest product on the market but I can see where the money goes in developing the Chanel shades- Rouge Noir is perfection.
