About an hour and a half down the road from Norfolk lies Thoresby Hall & Spa. The historic pile looks like Downton Abbey and is full of beautiful architecture and antiques. Add in an amazing spa, a courtyard with bespoke boutiques including my fave jewellers and I’m a happy camper.
Don’t be put off by the fact the hotel is run by Warners. Yes the average customer might be 60 years old but this means it’s quiet, no unwanted attention for women travelling alone or with friends and the spa attracts ladies who lunch, so you’ll be in good company. Plus no children, not even in the grounds (where I found this little fellow)!
Turns out you can have too much of a good thing. If another email promoting this season’s must-have pastel trend pops into my inbox I think I’m going to scream! Two months of sugary sweet pastels is quite enough, if you haven’t bought a pink pastel coat yet, just except the moment is over and start looking ahead to summer. This April my wish-list is full of vibrant shades and fierce fashion…. enjoy!
I’m not really a numbers gal, I don’t count calories or know the exact price of every item in my shopping basket. Some people are obsessed with facts and figures; sensible when applied to financial matters but far to easy to get caught up with calculations and miss the point. For March I’m breaking down the numbers and laying out the facts and figures, so here goes….
Paris Fashion Week sets the Parisian capital alight this week…
– RiRi steals the limelight with her daring choice of outfit, we had french maid at Dior, intrepid explorer at Balmain, androgynous at Lanvin and barely there at all, to the Balmain after party. Metro.
– Garance Doré launches her very first stationery collection with Rifle yesterday at Colette. Beautiful illustrations and lots of social media. Fashionista.com.
– Raf Simons steps up his campaign to re-work the classic Dior look with a sports luxe twist. Sharp tailoring and double-breasted suits sat alongside lace-up details, brilliant brights and quilting. Inspired cuts and innovative shapes showcased Raf’s ingenuity (perfect statement dresses for the first lady). The most innovative pieces combined 1940’s nipped waist dresses with splits revealing contrasting coloured, slinky dresses with the addition of crystal appliqué. Vogue.
– Relax…. messy bed hair is officially chic, as seen at several Paris shows. Can’t find the hair brush this weekend, just don’t bother! Huffington Post.
– Paris can always be relied upon to provide a huge hit of fairytale fashion… heavenly. Vogue.
Down at the bottom of the garden, among the birds and the bees, that’s where you’ll find me.
Scribbling down ideas and to-do lists in my trusty notebook, tapping away like a mad woman on my smart phone. It’s one of the few places I can find total piece of mind. Working from home has major benefits (working in your pyjamas, no awkward office politics) but the fact is you are at home. All the drama of family life, swirls around the house, most distracting. Yes I have an office, which comes in handy for ‘official’ business but my best ideas- the lightning bolts of inspiration, tends to strike when I’m relaxed and disconnected from the rest of the world.
Being unequivocally unplugged, as it turns out, isn’t quite so helpful when it comes to finding inspiration. Just checking a fact or doing a quick, preliminary search is practically second nature now. Being able to fact check and write at the same time speeds up the whole creative process and stops me wandering off subject. A great article is a combination of fresh ideas and reliable research. With a portable device I can separate myself from the rest of humanity but still have infinite resources at my disposal. So if you need me, now you know where to look.
Valentines Day isn’t just for loved up couples, spend the day lavishing a whole lot of love on yourself….. go on, you deserve it. Being single doesn’t mean Valentines Day has to be a wash out because you’re a one woman show. Check out my gift guide above, any of which would make this girl very happy.
Great news my lovely readers…. it’s official, I’m an ASOS Insider.
So what does this mean for you? Well it means regular behind-the-scenes ASOS updates, a first look at the latest ASOS campaigns and a rustle through the forthcoming collections. I’ll be attending the ASOS #AccessAll events and snooping around ASOS HQ, so expect lashings of gossip, competitions and collaborations. ASOS is one of my favourite online stores, the one I visit when I want something specific- I always find what I’m looking for at ASOS. #TeamASOS.
Time to send those post-Christmas thank you notes.
A stylish present deserves a suitably stylish thank you card in return. Decorated with beautiful inky illustrations by Christian Lacroix and individually cut, I wouldn’t mind receiving the whole set as a gift myself. Emails may be more efficient and environmentally friendly but I still stand firm- I don’t think you can beat a hand written note. Available at www.liberty.co.uk.
At this time of year I’m consumed with finding the perfect gifts for all my loved ones. Meticulous planning with a smidgen of good luck and my Christmas shopping is almost complete. Time for the fun bit…. the wrapping! As a self confessed stationery freak, I adores all the bows, ribbon and glitter involved in gift wrapping. With all that hard work I think a little treat is in order and there’s some seriously amazing competitions online right now. Here’s my five favourite.
